Thousands of teachers experienced technical errors while applying for the 46,000 vacant positions advertised by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).
The deadline for application had been set for Monday, October 7. Most applicants shared their grievances online saying that the main issue they faced was failure of the portal to send the one time password on time.
At first, the majority of applicants received a "internal server error" notification when they attempted to access the portal to submit an application, despite several attempts.

“TSC Kenya your online job application portal is non-responding, kindly let your ICT team check that. It's bringing error log messages.” an applicant said on X platform.
According to the applicants, the problem started just a day after the TSC had announced the job vacancies and up to the deadline day, the issue was still not resolved.
“TSC Kenya the applications on pnp advertised jobs are not going through since yesterday. Personally, I have tried the system but nothing is forthcoming. Kindly the ICT department do something to allow teachers to beat the 7th October deadline,” another one wrote.
TSC boss Nancy Macharia released a statement on Thursday, October 3 dismissing claims that it was locking out teachers from applying and blaming the error on technical hitches that the recruitment portal was facing.

“We regret to inform you that we are currently experiencing technical challenges affecting the teacher recruitment portal,” the commission noted.
Macharia further promised that attempts to fix the errors were underway and urged applicants to exercise patience.
“We apologise for the inconvenience this has caused and kindly request your patience as we work diligently to restore the portal as soon as possible.”
This was after several Kenyans who were trying to apply vented their frustrations on social media of not being able to access the portal as deadline day was approaching.
This issue compounded to issues that teachers have been facing in the recent past . In May, Junior Secondary School (JSS) teachers had downed their tools demanding to be hired on a permanent and pensionable basis after the treasury had said it did not have enough funds to hire the teachers. When TSC announced the job vacancies, JSS teachers had gotten 39,550 vacancies out of the 46,000 advertised.
