The Association of Kenya Insurers (AKI) has called on motorists to verify their digital insurance certificates, cautioning that there may be invalid ones in the market.
In a statement on Thursday, April 24, the association indicated that there may be motorists who have been issued with fake policies, further exposing them to financial risks.
Therefore, motorists are advised to verify whether their certificates are authentic through USSD or the Bima Yangu mobile app.
"While motor insurance is mandatory in Kenya, it remains vulnerable to widespread fraud, exposing drivers and passengers to risk," read the advisory in part.
"Since the rollout of digital motor insurance certificates in 2020, customers have enjoyed convenience and real-time access. However, having a digital certificate alone is not enough, it must be verified."
