President William Ruto on Wednesday, May 8, announced a public holiday for Kenyans to remember victims of the ongoing floods menace.
Ruto announced that Friday, May 10, would be gazetted as a public holiday as a way of remembering Kenyans who have lost their lives or faced displacement in the nationwide floods.
The President further urged Kenyans to mark the day planting more trees as a way of mitigating the adverse effects of climate change.
Further, the head of state announced that schools would be reopened on Monday, May 13.
Schools were initially set to be re-open on Monday, April 29. However, hours to the re-opening, Education CS Ezekiel Machogu issued a midnight statement that postponed the exercise to Monday, May 6.
On Friday last week, President Ruto announced the indefinite suspension of school reopening - citing fears of accelerated rainfall.
The President now says that advise from the meteorological department showed positive weather forecasts, suggesting reduced rainfall in the coming days.
