“The Public Service Commission (PSC) is pleased to announce the recruitment of interns (Cohort 7) under the PSIP for the Financial Year 2024/2025,” the notice read in part.

“Interested and qualified graduates are requested to make their applications through the Commission's job portal accessible through www.publicservice.go.ke or www.psckjobs.go.ke by September 2, 2024,” the notice added.

The Public Service Internship Programme is a Government initiative to offer an opportunity for college graduates to acquire and develop valuable technical and professional skills while gaining work experience. The Commission first rolled out the programme in the financial year 2019/2020 with budgetary funding from the exchequer.

The programme aims to enhance youth development and employability by creating clear linkages between education, training and work and providing hands-on experience to build upon skills learned in the classroom and give them a competitive edge in the job market

It also aims to indoctrinate the interns on public service etiquette, values and ethics, establish a database of skills available to the public service for future HR needs and promote inclusivity, and diversity as envisaged in the Constitution

PSIP furthermore offers the youth financial incentives through payment of a stipend and exposes them to possibilities of entrepreneurship.

The internship programme comes a few days after the State Department for Social Protection and Senior Citizen Affairs announced that it is recruiting Kenyans who will serve as enumerators, a move that adds to the expanding opportunities for Kenyan youth to work in government positions.
