Taxpayers who do not have a source of income are permitted to file KRA Nil Returns. What source of income means is that you either have no business, rental, or employment income, for the return period under review which necessitates the submission of KRA Nil Returns on the iTax Portal.
Any Kenyan with a KRA PIN is required to file his or her iTax Returns on or before the due date of June 30 every year. So, whether you are employed or unemployed, if you have a KRA PIN Number, you must file KRA tax Returns, and failure to do so would result in a penalty from the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA).
KRA Nil Returns cover those who do not have a source of income, generally known as the unemployed. As a source of income, the taxpayer does not have rental, business, or employment revenue.
Please keep in mind that every Kenyan with a valid KRA PIN is required to file their annual income. If you are employed, you must file your KRA iTax Returns using the P9 Form provided by your employer.
