The Higher Education Loans Board (Helb) has the responsibility of financing students pursuing higher education. Postgraduate & Continuing Education Loan products run as an alternative window to empower Kenyans to further their studies through the provision of Loans to salaried applicants.
Through the Jielimishe loan product, Helb offers loans to employed students pursuing Professional Courses, Higher National diplomas, Postgraduate-Diploma, Masters or Ph.D. degrees in Kenya.
The loan products include the Jielimishe loan for salaried students, Training Revolving fund for public servants, and training revolving fund for KRA employees.
The loans are awarded per year and paid directly to the approved institutions of higher learning.
1. Jielimishe Loan (For Salaried Students)
This is a Helb financed product open to all salaried Kenyans undertaking Undergraduate, Masters & Doctorate degrees on either full time or part-time basis.
Loans are given out every year. For a Doctorate (Ph.D.) and Masters program, you can receive a loan of up to Ksh200,000.
The Interest Rate is 10% per annum with a Repayment Period of up to 48 Months

This is a Helb product open to all salaried Kenyans undertaking Undergraduate, Masters & Doctorate degrees on either full time or part-time basis.
How do I apply for Jielimishe Loan (For Salaried Students)?
- Visit www.helb/co.ke and click on create an account to register.
- Once the account is created, log in and select the alternative loan option.
- Access and duly complete the application form.
- Print out two copies of the alternative Postgraduate loan Form.
- Have the form appropriately filled, signed, and stamped by the relevant authorities and attach all the necessary documents as indicated on the checklist.
- Submit one copy of the form duly completed, signed, and stamped as well as the relevant certified copies of transcripts and certificates at Helb Student Service Centre on Mezzanine 1, Anniversary Towers, Nairobi.
- Retain one copy of the duly filled form for your records.
What are the requirements when applying for Jielimishe Loan (For Salaried Students)?
- Admission letter from a recognized university/College in Kenya
- Certified copy of your last acquired academic certificate (certified by a commissioner of oaths)
- Three (3) months latest payslips (certified by your employer)
- If you are employed on contract, please provide a copy of the appointment letter for a contract of not less than two years (certified by your employer)
- Certified copy of your National ID (certified by a commissioner of oaths)
- Certified copy of your KRA PIN (certified by a commissioner of oaths)
- Certified copy of National ID from two employed guarantors (certified by a commissioner of oaths)
- Recent colored passport size photograph of yourself
Repayment
Repayment for this loan starts immediately upon disbursement to the training institution.
2. Training Revolving Fund For Public/Civil Servants
This is a facility specifically for Civil Servants in National Government, County Governments, and the National Police Service.
This loan is offered in collaboration with The Ministry of Public Service. The amount awarded is between Ksh30,000 and Ksh500,000 at a competitive low-interest rate of 4% per year, with a prolonged repayment period of up to 72 months (6 years) through check-off.
The courses covered include examinable short courses of at least three (3) months and Postgraduate studies (Masters and Ph.D.). The loan is used to finance Tuition, Library, Computer, and Research and Examination fee
Who is eligible?
Civil Servants in National Government, Parliamentary Service Commission, Judicial Service Commission, County Governments, and National Police Service pursuing Postgraduate studies

Repayment
Repayment is due 1 month after disbursement through the monthly check-off system from the employer’s payroll for a maximum period of 72 months (6 years).
Applicable interest is 4% per year and an annual ledger fee of Kshs. 1,000.
3. Training Revolving Fund For KRA Staff
This postgraduate loan offer is for Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) employees.
The loan offer is up to Kshs500,000/= at an interest rate of 4% per year.
